Progress

It's been a few weeks, so I figured I should update everyone on the goings-on around here.
Since I last checked in, a lot of seeds have been planted; a lot of baby plants have grown and a lot have refused to grow; a lot of scribbling, crossing-out, and re-adjusting has been done; a lot of floor has been paced; a lot of dreams and ideas have been conceived and replayed in my mind; a lot of music has been played and replayed.
And I have a suspicion that it'll be that way forever and always.

I like to think that I finally have a handle on how the planting should work now... get some dirt (actually fancy organic coconut coif because global warming and stuff) nice and damp, pack it within an inch of its life into 72-cell flats, put seeds in each one, then sprinkle vermiculite on top. After that, put water in the bottom tray and stick the whole mess on top of the refrigerator where it's warm.

Then, when there's a decent number of little babies sticking up their heads, move the flat out and put it into one of these contraptions.

(They're only a little rickety.)
There have been some mishaps so far already... like the night before the first big planting when I realized that all of my calculations were grossly off, and I stayed up all night fixing days worth of work. But it turns out that it worked out for the best because I'll be using fewer flats and thus can plant everything earlier. Nifty.
Another one would be this happening:

Which hammered over my head this lesson: don't cut corners, such as we-don't-have-to-stake-the-greenhouse-in corners. I don't care if it took two hours to erect it and you're tired, you stake that bugger in, because you know how spring winds are.
Corner-cutting never ends well, especially in farming.

But there has been a lot of beauty. For example, things are actually growing on the floor of the family room and living room with these lights.

Look at these little guys. How neat and healthy they look. Doesn't that make it all worth it?
